Human Shields: Shielding the Truth
Israel backed by army of cyber-soldiers

If only Olmert, Livni and the wider Israeli public could remember their own family’s history of ‘terrorism’, they would be able to see how futile their own current military campaigns against ‘terrorists’ in Gaza and Lebanon are. more...
Immediate Cease Fire please!!!
The conflict escalated 17 days ago and its causes are complex and numerous.
Irrespective of political stands, the Lebanese civilian population is the target of continuous aggression from Israeli military forces. Help stop this unjustified collective punishment strategy that is ravaging the entirety of Lebanon's land and population and breaching all international laws.
So far Israel has fulfilled all its promises thanks to the inaction of the international community:
"...The targets of the operations are militants, not the Lebanese civilians..."
- IDF Deputy Chief of Staff
* Lebanese civilians constitute 92% of the 600 fatalities, out of whom:
* 74% are entire families, parents and their children, who have been targeted in their homes or on the roads while fleeing their hometowns,
* 53% are children,
* 35% are women
"...in order to make peace we need to strike them harder than ever..."
- Amir Peretz, Israel Defense Minister
* 100 daily Israeli air raids,
* 23 tons of bombs dropped in one day,
* 300 bombs dropped daily,
* At the rate of 3 bombs per minute,
* 4 factories of dairy farm, pharmaceutical factories, food supply depots destroyed
* 10 ambulances, and relief trucks hit on the road
"...If the soldiers are not returned, we will turn Lebanon's clock back 20 years..."
- Dan Halutz, Israel’s Chief of Staff
* 800 thousand people displaced,
* 32 roads destroyed,
* 55 bridges destroyed,
* airports bombed,
* 7 ports bombed,
* Civilian structures such as Hospitals, residential buildings, churches, mosques, factories, petrol stations bombed,
* Total estimated loss: 5 billion USD
We urge you to take action by calling for an immediate ceasefire to the
military operations through a number of ways:
1- Write to your MPs expressing your views on the British and European foreign policy. This can be easily done through
http://www.writetothem.com/
2- Voice your opinion to the national media, especially the wide audience ones such as the BBC website, Tabloids, and the Evening Standard
3- Spread this email to as many people as you can and inform as many people as possible about the crisis.
4- Raise donations to various humanitarian appeals and keep yourself updated about the situation by visiting the following blogs and websites:

Qana - Sunday July 30th , 2006
Only to let you know that these are 55 civilians, all killed , 20 of them are kids betwween 7 months and 12 years old.
Only to let you know that a number of these children are handicapped, they were hit in the last Qana massacre in 1996.
Only to let you know CNN and BBC are hosting IDF spokespeople who tell the world that these civilians were warned to leave , but they just didn't.
Only to let you know the air strikes took place at 1:00 am , all they people were sleeping, in their pyjamas, bare feet, in a shelter. The house was hit twice. Twice. To make sure they will all die.
Only to let you know that despite the fact that we're animals, but it would have been impossible for animals to sleep had there been any shelling from anywhere close , as the IDF alleges.
Only to let you know you free media won't show you these pictures.
Only to let you know that this is not the first time this happens , and I can promise you it won't be the last time.

Hezbollah leader said to be hiding in Iranian Embassy

A letter from Beirut By a young mum...
Well today I received and e-mail from my friends stating that some of the most popular bars, clubs and shopping outlets have relocated their addresses from Beirut to Faraya. I don’t know whether to be happy that Lebanese will never give up their life style no matter how much they are suffering, or be sad that some people are happy to go party, dance and drink with no care for their fellow nationals living in the South.
I am actually very confused. But if you ask me, I can’t even think of doing something fun while Lebanon is undergoing pain and heartaches on a daily basis.
Petrol, Nil
My husband and I went out for a ride, just to take a breather. We got a call from a friend who told us the petrol in the country has finished. I went mad, as I thought the government assured us that the country’s petrol resources will last us at least two months. It has been two weeks so far… I am going to cry. Not only are we prisoners in our own country, we are prisoners now in our own homes. We can’t use the petrol in our cars; as in cases of emergencies we will definitely need them.
Oh I guess people wanting to go party in Faraya have another thing coming their way…
My Baby
When I was younger, I didn’t really understand the concept of war. My mother would be stressed packing trying to get us out of the country, as my sisters and I would be so happy leaving – thinking we’re going on holiday.
I grew up knowing that Israel was an enemy, but since I was not too aware of the constant damages they inflicted in our country, my feelings towards them were indifferent.
Now I am 33, a mother of a one year old – I can not even begin to express the feelings that overpower me today. I never thought I was able to have so much hate for some one, a nation, Israel.
As a mother and a wife, I feel more responsible and therefore more afraid of what may happen in the near future. I am always in a state of panic – I need milk, diapers, bottled baby food and of course wet wipes… and water… as the supply is very very limited.
My baby should always be in front of my eyes. I worry and dread that something will happen to her. It’s happening to others. Mothers have lost their babies and babies have lost their mothers. Is this fair… and all for what?

amounts of depressing and appalling photos that she receives for her newspaper...
And she is still writing... please read and forward... kx
Dear all,
Sad stories in the paper today. A colleague went to see a family in
AL Zahra Hospital In Beirut, they told her how they fled
Tireh village in the south
their house was bombed, some of the family members
stayed under the rubble, the rest went to the neighbours' house.
It was also hit, and under its rubbles were left more family members...
The rest ran away.
Their car was targeted on the road. More of them got killed.
They met a UN convoy and screamed for help.
What happened next is the following : one UN soldier was
taking their picture ,
and when he finished ,
he yelled "no , no "
and left them there.
Now the father and two sisters are in a hospital in the south,
and the rest of the family is in Beirut. (the shayto's picture below ).
My other colleague toured some schools hosting refugees
with a group of doctors.
Conclusion : spread of diseases due to lack of hygiene:
when you don't have water, or washing machines ,
when tens, sometimes hundred of people shared school rooms,
this is bound to happen.
She also met a group of some 30 people who could not find
a place in public schools and who are now in a garden of an empty house.
She tells the story of the 80 year old woman there who wouldn't eat,
because she wants to spare the food for the children.
She told Saada , my colleague, it would be a waste for her to eat
whereas the kids are hungry.
Milia did a small thing about a fx some hospitals
in the south received from a local association,
offering very attractive packages for nurses and radiologists needed in the US.
Now, here, the US is recruiting medical staff.
Faten went to the Securite Generale and found out
that loads of people are applying for passports:
five thousand passports are issued every day since July 13th
( in a country of 3,5 million people).
Some 151 thousand Lebanese nationals have left the county in nine days.
(betw July 13 and July 25th)
Habib wrote about Green Peace closing their offices
in Lebanon at a time the sea is plagued with unprecedented
pollution due to the Israeli shelling of fuel tank reserves that made
our sea's colour look black.
Experts say it will take the water, the rocks, the sand
and the fish tens of years to recover.
People shoud not swim in the sea for long years to come.
The minister of health annouced today that 600 people were killed
and some 1300 injured since the Israeli aggression started
on July the 12th.
George W. Bush says he's against a ceasefire
that does not solve the problem from the roots.
Well , tell him it's working :
we're being exterminated from the roots.

Lebanon/Israel: Urgent need for arms embargo on Israel and Hizbullah
As civilians continue to bear the brunt of the conflict in Israel and
Lebanon, Amnesty International called for an immediate arms embargo on
both Israel and Hizbullah.
Amnesty International is gravely concerned about the continuing transfer
of weapons from the US, via the UK, as information emerged that a UK
airport is being used by USA cargo planes on their way to deliver
munitions to Israel.
"The pattern of attacks and the extent of civilian casualties show a
blatant disregard of international humanitarian law by Israel and
Hizbullah," said Irene Khan, Amnesty International Secretary General.
"Direct targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure and launching
indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks amount to war crimes."
"Governments supplying Israel and Hizbullah with arms and military
equipment are fuelling their capacity to commit war crimes. All
governments should impose an arms embargo on both sides and refuse
permission for their territories to be used for the transfer of arms and
military equipment."
UK media have reported that two chartered Airbus A310 cargo planes filled
with GBU 28 laser-guided bombs containing depleted uranium (DU) warheads
and destined for the Israeli airforce landed at Prestwick airport, near
Glasgow. The planes landed for refuelling and crew rests after flying from
the US this past weekend.
Other reports claimed that the USA has requested that two more planes be
permitted to land in the UK en route to Israel in the next two weeks. The
reports said the aircraft will be carrying other weapons, including bombs
and missiles.
"The UK government should refuse permission for its sea and air ports to
be used by planes or ships carrying arms and military equipment destined
for Israel or Hizbullah," said Ms Khan as Amnesty International wrote to
the UK's Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett. The organization also called
on the UK to suspend the sale or transfer of all arms and military
equipment to Israel.
"It is ridiculous to talk about providing humanitarian aid on the one
hand, and to provide arms on the other. In the face of such human
suffering in Lebanon and Israel, it is imperative that all governments
stop the supply of arms and weapons to both sides immediately," stated Ms
Khan.
Statement by Workers in the Public Cultural Sphere in Lebanon
1) Our conscious support for the Lebanese national resistance as it wages
a war in defense of our sovereignty and independence, a war to release
Lebanese imprisoned in Israel, a war to safeguard the dignity of the Lebanese
and Arab people.
2) Our unambiguous refutation of the logic that accuses HizbAllah of
having provided the "pretext" for the Israeli invasion. Israel did not invade
Lebanon, destroy its infrastructure, displace and murder its populace because
of the heroic operation carried out by HizbAllah. Israel has never needed a
pretext to breach the sovereignty of Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, or other
nations. Rather, the recent Israeli aggression is the latest in a long series
extending back to the founding of the Zionist state and motivated by both
historical ambitions vis-à-vis Lebanese territory and waters and by a racist
supremacist ideology that denigrates the indigenous population, their culture,
and their very existence. The most recent aggression is, more specifically,
the realization of a long-standing, openly professed desire of Israel to
avenge for its humiliation at being driven out of most of Lebanon by the
resistance operations that began in September 1982 and had their fruition in
May 2000. Israels very avowal of intent to implement by its own powers UN
Resolution 1559 is itself proof that its invasion of Lebanon today surpasses
any mere response to the above-mentioned operation and serves an American
policy that aims at annihilating all viable opposition in the world at large,
and at direct control of the Arab world and its resources in particular. How
strange that Israel should wish to be the policeman in charge of executing UN
Resolution 1559 when it has not yet executed any of the previously issued UN
resolutions addressing its own actions, with the exception of the partial
implementation of Resolution 425, which resulted essentially because of
strikes inflicted by the armed Lebanese Resistance.
3) Our staunch condemnation of official American support for, and
contribution to, the Israeli aggression. The war crimes Israel is currently
committing, as well as those it committed in the past and will commit in the
probable future, would not have occurred or occur yet without Americas
political and military support for Israel, that which is unmitigated by its
allegedly unswerving espousal of Lebanese freedom, sovereignty, and
independence.
4) Our utter rejection of the Lebanese governments decision to "not
adopt" the Lebanese Resistance operation, thereby stripping the Resistance of
political credibility before the adversarial international powers, when it
behooved that government to deem the said operation as consistent with its
Ministerial Proclamation in support of the liberation of the Lebanese
prisoners in Israel, of Shebaa Farms, and of Kfar Shuba.
We the undersigned, in declaring our intentions, also therefore, call upon:
1) The Lebanese government, which we want to see leading a sovereign,
democratic state for all Lebanese, to realize its full responsibilities,
especially in terms of embracing the Lebanese Resistance in diverse ways, and
particularly after the clarification of Israels plan to destroy the
infrastructure, institutions, and political entity of Lebanon.
2) Arab intellectuals to stand beside the Lebanese Resistance, to expose
the Zionist racist, supremacist impetus, and to document Israels crimes
against Arabs since its founding. Likewise, we ask our Arab colleagues to
confront the continual calls for capitulation (wrapped in the cloak of
"realism"), and to expose both the American bias towards Israel and the
complicity of the majority of "rational" Arab governments against the Lebanese
Resistance. We, also, ask that you take a stand against all kinds of
normalization with Israel, by closing down the Israeli embassies and
government offices located in Arab countries, and by boycotting products of
Israeli and pro-Israeli companies, whatever their nationality.
3) Lebanese intellectuals, in particular, not to be swayed by the (il)
logic that accuses HizbAllah of having destroyed the Lebanese economy, but
instead to hold Israel fully responsible for its age-old policy of destruction
and war crimes. The principle of the Lebanese Resistance is to be a deterrent
force against Israels ability to pursue that policy with impunity.
4) Free-thinking intellectuals the world over, and advocates of justice
and peace, to publicize the history of Israeli aggression and to pressure the
American and European governments to halt their military and material
maintenance of the Zionist killing machine. Similarly, we call upon our peers
in the world to announce a boycott of Israeli products, and of Israeli
academic and scientific institutions that do not condemn the Israeli
aggression against Lebanon. Furthermore, we invite intellectuals the world
over to visit Lebanon in order to stand by the side of their Lebanese
colleagues and to view first hand the results of Israeli war crimes against
civilians, schools, infrastructure, humane institutions (foremost among them
the Lebanese Red Cross), and media (which, in addition to sustaining hits on
its press convoys and aerial transmitters, most recently lost to Israeli fire
the reporters Layal Najib and Sulayman Shidyak). The solidarity of world
intellectuals with the Lebanese people, press, and culture-workers, in such
direct terms, would constitute an international declaration of the refusal to
permit Israel to treat Lebanon as a mere "military target" for its airplanes,
warships, tanks, and "smart" bombs.
Resistance is an intellectual act par excellence. That is because the goal of
intellectual activity, like resistance, is to defend the values of justice and
equality of all people. For this reason we, the undersigned, consider,
regardless of our varying intellectual inclinations, cultural and critical
activity an integral part of Lebanese national resistance, indeed of
resistance to injustice anywhere in the world.

Gathering of Lebanese AND PALESTINIAN NGOs for relief
SAMIDOUN
(STEADFAST)
Proposal of emergency and relief needs
Beirut – 21 July 2006
Brief on the situation
The conflict started on Wednesday 12 July 2006 and by the next day the military escalation reached a critical level. In fact, the infrastructure of the country was heavily destroyed and lots of areas were cut off from each other in addition to the fact that Israel imposed an embargo on Lebanon cutting it from the rest of the world. The damages to date are as follows: Beirut airport installations have been demolished together with the three other airports, ports and radars in Lebanon have been bombed, most of the bridges and highways connecting main cities have been also hit and rendered unusable, the roads to Syria have been bombed and thus making it very hazardous to cross. All these led to the fact that today Lebanon has been cut off from the world and the most direct consequence being that no aids, rescues, food, medication, fuel and equipment can reach us from outside. Thus, Lebanon has to rely on internal resources and supplies.
To date, on the human level, there are 307 dead, at least 800 wounded and half a million displaced. These figures are a compilation from Lebanese governmental and UN sources. In addition to that and based on the newspapers it is estimated that Lebanon has lost 3.3 billion dollars of economical losses.
Background information on the gathering of Lebanese NGOs for Relief
This document represents the work carried out by the largest relief gathering of NGOs in the country. The gathering is constituted of three main groups with a total of forty Lebanese NGOs from all over the country (please find a comprehensive list of these NGOs and the groups in Annex IV). Around two hundred volunteers are also involved and the number is increasing on a daily basis. We should note that these volunteers are working ten hours per day on average and they are using their own cellular mobiles, cars and other personal resources.
These NGOs were already on the ground on the first day of the Israeli aggression and they are coordinating and providing immediate relief and emergency services and activities on a daily basis and these include:
- relief and emergency activities,
- medical aid and prevention,
- psychological support,
- provision of information on the situation,
- coordination with the relief actors,
- surveys and needs assessment,
- purchase and distribution of food and medical supplies,
- fundraising in and outside Lebanon.
Target populations and areas
The gathering is providing services to around 15, 000 refugees residing in 38 schools in the areas of greater Beirut and Mount Lebanon. It is worth noting that these figures are varying on daily basis as new refugees are coming to Beirut everyday. Also, an additional school is being opened everyday in order to host the new refugees.
List of needs
Based on the surveys and needs assessments carried out in the 38 schools and updated on daily basis, it has been noted that the most urgent needs are those related to the following:
- accommodation of the refugees in the schools
- Great lack and in some cases inexistence of mattresses and blankets,
- Sheets,
- Sanitary equipments (inexistence of showers),
- Hygienic materials,
- Food
- Medications, Medical supplies and equipments
- Cutlery
- Clothing
- Fuel
Based on our daily work with the refugees we have estimated the cost of 5$ per person per day covering basic needs of food, water and excluding medications, clothing, accommodation, fuel and transportation expenses.
It is worth noting that given the lack of facilities at the schools (kitchens) and the lack of water, gas and electricity we are providing the refugees with food items that do not need to be cooked such as cans (meat, fish and beans), bread, milk, tea, water. We are however planning to start a hot food unit in each school. This would require kitchen utensils and equipment which would contribute in reducing the costs of food per person per day. This provision has already started in five schools.
Health sector: the refugees are suffering from the lack of showers in their respective schools and this is resulting in a poor hygiene and some persons and mostly children and old people are starting to suffer from skin diseases.
Ten health / medical teams are on duty. These include volunteers from different universities and NGOs.
