Widdo

Widdo is my mum , that is her nickname though .

i love my mum... my mum is a hero , big hero , massive hero the best hero in town ...

my dad left us to come to the uk to work during the war because as an artist there was no
place for him in a lebanese civil war ... anyways ... next time i will have a dad column...

anyways back to widdo.. widdo is a very special woman ... why ? Because widdo was a single mum when she was 33 years old.

Her husband left to work to get the money abroad, 2 kids , girl 4 years old , boy, 3 years old, and, her at 33 had to survive and foremost had to keep her kids alive ....

mum i salute you for getting us through those 20 years of civil war, alive, well educated and not traumatised by any of the war images we saw in front of our innocent eyes.

i am watching this war on tv and talking to you every other day; I would be worried and panicking and you as strong as ever... at 60 you are still 33 .

you are a tough woman mum, very tough woman... living with your kids alone, trying to live the day but as well making your kids feel as normal as possible though you had to flee with us every now and then , we used to sleep all in the same bed,
and you and bro used to get annoyed me kicking you in the tummy ...

you are tough , i remember you once during the war , one of those years between 75 and 89
you were worried about some militia men who wanted to move into the empty flat next door, you were alone with us and to protect us YOU invite the guy in for a coffee tell him your life story and that we are your responsibility and you love us too much so the guy gets so intimidated that he convinved the men to go and take another flat.

YOU

did all that to protect us ,
in the days when people used to shoot on ID ,
you did not care about your safety ,
you took the risk ...

YOU ARE THE BEST MUM IN THE WORLD

many many stories you have done that made me so proud of you everyday more and more until today everyday ...

you are my strenght in this war , though it is you who is stuck on the 7th floor in beirut , no electricity and it is very smokey and hot , and knowing your hot flushes you might be so frustrated and all that .. and you are not leaving house much because you cannot go on the stairs for 7 floors, nasty ones in our building...

and

you are still my strenght i call you , i am worried after watching the news , and you are:
' hi mum how are you ? i am watching comedy channel and i saw your bro etc... '

as if it is just a normal day ...

that is how you do it , you adapt your life according to the general situation and that is great self defense i think to stay sane and not lose hope ...great teachings mum , thanks ... you are ganeouusssss' (excuse me something between my mum and us : my bro and myslef...)

am i just missing my mum too much or what???

i miss you so much mum , i hope i can go visit you soon , i hope i will land on beirut airport , on a middle east airlines PLANE and hug you and tell you how much i miss you and how much i love you

stand there strong , hope soon this bloodshed ends so i can go see youuu .....

take care superwoman , no worries about you .... you are my heart (ELBEH INTI!)
