Indian regiment in Lebanon celebrates Guru Purab

Jerusalem, Nov. 6 (PTI): The Indian battalion in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), 4 Sikh regiment, has celebrated the Guru Purab with prayers for enduring peace in Lebanon.

The Priest of the battalion delivered a holy sermon yesterday during the celebrations in which he prayed for permanent peace in Lebanon, a release from the regiment said.

Hundreds of people from all segments of the society turned up for the 'Langar' (community kitchen). The entire Indian community of UNIFIL got together at the INDBATT Headquarters to celebrate the 537th birthday Guru Nanak Dev.

The event ended on a social harmonious note which was displayed to the august gathering in true Indian tradition and spirit, the release said.

The Indian contingent was awarded the Force Commander's Unit Citation for its commendable service during the war in southern Lebanon recently.

Seventythree officers and soldiers from the regiment were given Force Commander's Commendation Card for their good work.
