Stop Sectarianism Campaign
Awareness campaign on sectarianism
Background
Since 1920, Lebanese society has been structured according to religious confessions or sects. Within a country of 10,000 km², we have over 17 official religious sects.
Sectarianism is intertwined in our daily life, and has been so for years, officially and in society. Most official positions are based on religious denominations.
Sectarianism was one of the main factors leading to the civil war, but even today, everybody still thinks along religious lines and divides people into sectarian groups.
The topic was always a taboo subject, until the “Spring Revolution” of 2005. With this movement, the creation of civil society groups brought together people from every religion, and made it clear to many that civil society-led initiatives could effectively make a difference.
The campaign:
The campaign focuses on the ridiculous/harmful side of sectarianism/confessionalism and its excesses in our every day life.
Generously conceived for AMAM by a multi-confessional creative team of like-minded people from the H&C Leo Burnett agency, the campaign is bound to make you both laugh and think. The tone, which is innovative, provocative, funny and straight to the point, will most certainly generate debate and provoke much-needed thinking about the reality of how far confessionalism dictates our every day social behaviour.
Like us, you think confessionalism is a plague which has been eating away at this country for as long as one can remember. Like us, you also think this country, despite all its flaws and complexities, remains a place like no other, one we should cherish, support & believe in. Like us, you have surrendered to the Lebanese spell, and have vowed to always keep trying, in your own way, to make things better. Like us, you are a believer in the unique richness and potential found in the Lebanese pluri-confessional make-up. We hope you like this campaign. BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said Wednesday his government will survive despite the resignations of six Cabinet ministers this week.
"I know that some are saying that it's on the verge of collapse," Siniora said. "But there are many others who are definitely saying that this government is quite representative of the people and has the majority of the members of parliament."
All five Shiite Muslim ministers and one Christian in the 24-member Cabinet resigned in advance of Monday's vote that approved the creation of an international tribunal to probe the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. (Full story)
The remaining 18 ministers unanimously backed the creation of the tribunal over the objections of pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud and the Syrian- and the political arm of Iranian-backed Hezbollah, whose four ministers were among those who resigned.
U.N. investigators have linked Syria to the death of Hariri and 22 other people on February, 14, 2005, when an explosion was set off near his motorcade. Damascus denies any involvement, and Hezbollah says Syria's accusers have no evidence to back up their claims.

Indian regiment in Lebanon celebrates Guru Purab
Jerusalem, Nov. 6 (PTI): The Indian battalion in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), 4 Sikh regiment, has celebrated the Guru Purab with prayers for enduring peace in Lebanon.
The Priest of the battalion delivered a holy sermon yesterday during the celebrations in which he prayed for permanent peace in Lebanon, a release from the regiment said.
Hundreds of people from all segments of the society turned up for the 'Langar' (community kitchen). The entire Indian community of UNIFIL got together at the INDBATT Headquarters to celebrate the 537th birthday Guru Nanak Dev.
The event ended on a social harmonious note which was displayed to the august gathering in true Indian tradition and spirit, the release said.
The Indian contingent was awarded the Force Commander's Unit Citation for its commendable service during the war in southern Lebanon recently.
Seventythree officers and soldiers from the regiment were given Force Commander's Commendation Card for their good work.

‘I don’t suppose you’re open for business again yet?’ I ask Mona Khalil over the phone. She and her associate, Habiba Syed were trapped in their Orange House bed and breakfast on the Tyre-Naqqoura road for the first weeks of the war, as Israel bombarded the south. “We only lost one bedroom and one bathroom, so we’re still open, yes,” she answers. You have to love the Lebanese in times of hardship.

please guys easy tigers..
take it easy ya 3azizi...
if anything gets very very messed up in lebanon soon , ie , walid jumblatt and nasrallah showing their muscles to each other, this will only mean that israel has won the war again over lebanon...
This is worse than cluster bombs , or destroyed bridges or F&*$#ed infrastructure... this is the people of the same blood and place fighting ...cain and abel ....why ???
youhooo... we do not want people to go to the streets from both sides and we do not want to show the whole world that we can slide easily into chaos because they distabilised us wether it is syria, iran , the US , france , the world ... please God ! arghhhhh it makes me sick! very sick ...

Low times for pot smokers: A newspaper report in Israel indicates that the war in Lebanon during the summer between Israel and Hizbullah has dramatically raised the prices of cannabis in Israel, sending pot smokers everywhere into a frenzy.
According to a report in Yedioth Ahronoth Tuesday, the prices of cannabis have increased eight-fold since the beginning of the war.
The high price of the narcotic is estimated to be a direct result of supply shortages due to heightened security on Israel's northern border with Lebanon. For many years the border with Lebanon has been fertile ground for drug trafficking into Israel, many times with full cooperation between Israeli citizens and Hizbullah terrorists from across the border.
Last month, Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter visited the village of Ghajar on the northern border and received a security briefing on the security and narcotics situation in the village which is split between Israel and Lebanon.
A senior officer said during the briefing that "while we are sitting here, dozens of kilos of drugs are making their way into Israel through the village." He explained that local citizens of the village are used by Hizbullah terrorists to gather intelligence about Israel in return for drugs coming in from Lebanon and called it "an equation of drugs for terrorism and intelligence."
The security situation in the southern border with Egypt has also hampered the efforts of smugglers to bring pot into Israel. The IDF's efforts to prevent weapons and explosives from reaching the Gaza Strip have also resulted in a shortage of drugs for the consumers in Israel.
